Verses:
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 9:1 says “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
Revelation 11:17 says “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign.”
Devo:
Several weeks ago I shared that my officer and I have been using these printables to share something we’re grateful for in the other person each day. It’s made a difference in our marriage to be more mindful and intentional about telling one another how grateful we are-whether it’s for taking out the trash, hanging the Christmas light, or coming home safe.
My SIL and I have also been texting each other three things we’re thankful for each evening. Having an accountability partner there to share our gratefulness with gives us both an extra boost. I’ve also been assigning my clients (I’m a family therapist) similar thankfulness homework regularly.
Needless to say, it’s a game changer. Focusing on what we’re thankful for makes a difference because it shifts our mindset. And praising God for those things shapes our hearts.
Throughout the Bible we are reminded to give thanks. We are told to praise Him for His good works, to sing of His praises, and to give thanks to Heaven. When we take moments throughout the day to marinate on what we’re grateful for and thank the Lord for those things, it instills the attitude of gratitude in our minds and souls.
Being thankful is something that is important all year but even easier to enact this time of year when we’re surrounded by holidays that remind us of what we’re thankful for. Join me this holiday season on focusing on a season of thankfulness and praising God for all that He’s given us!
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the constant blessings You rain down on my life. Even in the trials and dark times, You provide. Thank You for my health, my family, my home, and the safety of my officer. Help me remain in constant prayer with You this season. Help me see all that I am thankful for and focus on those things.
