I’m sure you’ve seen those little chocolate pretzel hearts all over the internet this month-they’re so cute I had to put a little thin line spin to them!

These little pretzel treats are super simple and require only a microwave and a few ingredients. You could make them pink and red and Valentine-y, or make them thin line like I did! Either way, they’re an easy and yummy treat to gift to your first responder-or eat yourself!
You’ll need: mini twist pretzels, melting chocolate or chocolate chips (white or milk/semisweet or both), food coloring (if you want to make a colored chocolate), parchment paper, and ziploc bags.
Start by lining up a bunch of your pretzels on your parchment paper, then add some chocolate chips and a little bit of oil (vegetable or canola-any neutral oil should work) into a microwave safe container to melt. The oil helps the chips melt-if you’re using candy melts or melting chocolate, you probably won’t need any!

Heat the chocolate in bursts, stirring in between, until it’s just melted. Don’t overcook it, or the choose will seize up and be hard to work with.

For my thin blue line pretzels I used both white chocolate and semisweet, using the semisweet for the base of the heart and the white for the line. If you want to color your chocolate, add a few food coloring drops at a time, stirring it in until you get the shade you want. If the chocolate starts to harden, add a little bit of oil and reheat until it’s workable.

Then, add your melted chocolate to a ziploc or pastry bag to pipe it onto the pretzels. I’ve found it’s easiest to stick the bag into a tall glass, then add the melted chocolate. Once your bag is full, simple snip off the tip with some scissors.

Complete your “hearts” and let them set a bit, then add your “thin line” on top. If you want to add sprinkles, now’s the time-they’ll stick best when the chocolate hasn’t hardened yet!

I used a toothpick to move the chocolate around a bit to really get the heart shape-this just depends on how tedious you want to be. They’ll be delicious regardless of how they look!

Let your pretzels “set” (aka let the chocolate harden) and then enjoy!
If you want to gift these to your officer or another first responder, you can find a free Valentine printable that I made a few years ago here.
