Verse:
Colossians 3:2 says “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.”
Devo:
This week has been a busy one. It’s not just been a jam packed schedule, but it’s been one of those weeks where your mind is constantly going back and forth about your to do list, your future plans, your worries, your responsibilities. We’re in the middle of packing up our house and finishing last minute projects at our new house. My caseload at work has been out of control. My officer is switching both days and shifts. Our “routine” has seemed chaotic and nonexistent.
And through all of that I’ve been worrying. I’ve been stressing out about what I still have to do and what I could have done better. Last night as I was trying to fall asleep my mind was a whirlwind.
And the 10 word verse from Colossians came to mind.
In 100 years, none of that stuff will matter. What will matter is how I’ve treated my friends and family. How I invested in my marriage. How I touched lives at work. How I lived for Christ.
This week I challenge y’all (and let’s be honest, myself!) to be more present. Wherever you are, be all there.
Those worries you have? Tell them to shove it, because that’s just the enemy trying to creep into your life. That to do list that’s never ending? It’ll still be there after that appointment or after that coffee date with your friend or after you’ve helped that neighbor.
Set your mind on things above, not on the worries and expectations of this earth.
Prayer:
Lord, You know that my mind has been consumed lately, but it hasn’t been of You. I ask that You help me refresh and reset my sights on You and Your goodness, and not get sucked in to the worldly things going on all around us. Please help remind me throughout the day what really matters-You.
